Hello, and welcome back to the one and only Food DUPE!. Last Saturday, my parents, my brother and I went to Adam Road Food Center for lunch (hawker center on Adam Road, not far from Botanic Garden MRT). Adam Road Food Center was opened in 1974 in an effort to get hawkers off the streets. They are famous for their Malay food, especially their nasi lemak and mutton soup. Spoiler alert: I did not really enjoy the food but there was one treasure at the end of the rainbow.
Food

To start off, we had the famous Nasi Lemak from the stall Selera Nasi Lemak. It is famous because The Sultan of Brunei ate their Nasi Lemak and keeps requesting for the dish every time he comes to Singapore. The Prime Minister served this dish to the President of Indonesia when the President of Indonesia was in Singapore in 2014. The 2 big differences in this Nasi Lemak to every other Nasi Lemak is they use Basmati rice instead of Jasmine rice and their Sambal is sweeter, because the grandmother of the owner wanted to cater more customers. Basmati rice is lighter, and not as rich as Jasmine.

This stall is so popular, by the time I reached, there were only two meal types left. I ordered the chicken meal. The Nasi Lemak was not to my taste. The coconut rice was too soft, the chicken was tender on the inside, but it was too crispy on the outside for me. The sambal was too spicy for me. In my father’s opinion, it was too sweet. The ikan bilis was nice and crunchy. I rate this a fat ⅕. The one is for presentation and the fish.

We also had satay from Pondok Satay. We had two types of meat, pork and mutton. I will take chicken satay over this anyday. The colors made it look like it was overcooked, but it wasn’t. The pork and mutton was tender, but a little too chewy in my opinion. Normally, I like eating these pieces of skewered meat, but for some reason, my father decided to order pork and mutton instead of chicken, which I prefer. I give this an 3/5.

My final dish was something called Roti John. Roti John is a Singaporian dish. It is a huge sandwich stuffed with onions, minced meat, and sauce. On top, there was mayo, ketchup, and sauce. It melts in my mouth, and it is so delicious, the combination of all these ingredients. That was a solid 10/5!!!!!
Ambiance
Adam Road Food Center is a hawker center, so I knew it was going to be noisy, crowded, and messy. Cups full of drinks were in many different places. Abandoned tables had food on them, and some of the chairs too. Popular stalls had very long lines. The seats were limited due to Covid.
Verdict
Adam Food Centre was not that great. The Nasi Lemak rice was too soft, the sambal was too spicy, and the Satay was too chewy. The only good thing was the Roti John because of the combination of the sauce, bread and meat. I give this place a 2/5 because of the Nasi Lemak and the Satay. I will not be DUPEing anything this time.
