Yesterday was the day after Cheti Chand, which is the Sindi New Year. So we went to a vegetarian restaurant called Kalaish Parbat. The restaurant is named after the mountain that is believed to be where the supreme god, Shiva, lives.
Kailash Parbat history can be traced down to 1940’s, when the Mulchandani Brothers sold “Pani Puri” on the Bans Road in Karachi. The then famed delight was eventually tagged as “Pakistan Preferred.” Soon after the partition 1947, the Mulchandani preferred to leave back their valuables and chose to pick up the utensils in which they used to make their “Pani Puri” and “Ragda”. With these precious assets they landed up in Mumbai. In the year 1952, their obsession to serve food delights made them start their first new outlet named as “Kailash Parbat”.
Sindhi Hindus are Sindhis who follow the Hindu religion, whose origins lie in the Sindh region of modern-day Pakistan. After the Partition of India in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus were among those who fled Pakistan, which was predominantly Muslim, to India, in what was a wholesale exchange of Hindu and Muslim populations in some areas. Some later emigrated from the sub-continent and settled in other parts of the world. The 2011 census listed 2.8 million speakers of Sindhi in India,
Food
We had a Punjabi Samosa first. This was supposed to be spicy, but it wasn’t. The crust was crunchy, the potatoes were creamy, and the peas were smooth. The flavor was not much. Overall, it was a good dish. A 4/5.

Then we had a mini kebab set. There was cottage cheese, which was covered in a green chutney and chilli powder. The baby corn tasted like it was grilled. This is a easy 5/5.

The Mexican chaat is not what you expect it to be. It is a round nacho stuffed with a sweet sauce, pomegranate and corn. It is sealed by melted cheese. It tasted a bit like cheese fondue. A 5/5.

Daal pakwan is what I call a normal dish at home. The daal is creamy and soft. The poori is crunchy and hard, but delicious. Another 5/5!

Seyal Maanni is a tomato curry with curry leaves. It is very good. The tomato curry is sweet and tangy. This is a 3/5 cause it was too spicy.

Ambiance
The ambiance was really nice. The tables were nicely set. The head lamps were really nice. The service was really good.
Verdict
The food was amazing and the ambiance and service was the best. This gets a straight 5/5!
A history lesson within a food blog?! I call that "winning"! You need to visit Miami so you can review the restaurants here. 😉
